Erika Ritschard, from Long Beach, Mississippi, had her silicone implants removed after five years because she said they were ageing her prematurely and wrecking her health. She claims to have visited doctors more than 15 times in a bid to get to the bottom of her unexplained but devastating symptoms, but their tests kept showing she was healthy (inset, in hospital after shaving her head because her hair became straw-like). After finding a Facebook group full of other women who had been through the same experience after getting breast implants, she paid $5,000 (£3,850) to have them removed at a clinic in Mobile, Alabama (pictured right, holding her implants after they were removed). Mrs Ritschard said her symptoms cleared up within two months.
